The incident was said to have occurred on the Friday night, August 29, 2014.
The student said the soldier raped her
three times within five hours under a tree while she was returning to
her apartment at the Oke Ola area, Eruwa, when she was arrested by the
soldier around 10.30 pm on the allegation that she was a cult member.
According to Vanguard, the student narrated her ordeal.
She said: “I was coming back to my
room after seeing off a friend. He accused me of being a cultist for
moving about around that time, but I denied it.
He then ordered me to climb his
motorcycle, but I pleaded with him that he should let me go.“He removed a
knife and said that he would stab me if I refused to obey him. So
scared, I climbed the Okada and he took me to the Operation Burst office
in Eruwa.“
When we got there, he forcefully led
me to a dark area under a tree and ordered me to remove my dress to
enable him see if I had tattoos on my body.
“He then removed the knife again and
said that he would slaughter me like a ram if I failed to ‘cooperate’
and that I would be buried like many other girls who had failed to
cooperate in the past, and nobody would trace my death to him.
“Sensing danger, I removed my
clothes. He ordered me to lie down under the tree and had sex with me
several times while I was crying.“He raped me till 3.30 am and when I
complained of catching cold, he entered into the office and brought out a
bottle of beer which he gave to me and then went to get a blanket for
me to cover my body”
“After waiting for about 30 minutes, but when he did not return, I dressed up and ran away.”
The counsel, Adeosun who confirmed the
incident said other soldiers walked pass the randy soldier while the
“disgusting act was going on” and did nothing.
Adeosun said in a statement: “The
act was reported at Eruwa Police Station in the morning. The victim was
taken to the Operation Burst office where an identification parade was
carried out and she identified the randy soldier.
“He admitted raping her and begged
for forgiveness. Our client was taken to the General Hospital in Eruwa
for test. The hospital said it had no gloves to carry out test, so the
victim had to buy a pair not far from the hospital. Dr. Jesim Gambo, who
conducted the test only used the torchlight in his telephone to examine
her private parts and concluded in his report that although she did not
see sperm in the vagina, there was evidence that it was tampered with.
“He also wrote that the examination was inconclusive,” he said.
However, he said the soldier will be charged for abandoning his duty post in the night without permission against standing instructions in the Operation Burst’s code of conduct”.
The security men attached to Operation Burst was set up by Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State to check criminality in the state.
