Omisore, Aregbesola's lawyers clash during inspection of election materials
Lawyers representing Governor Rauf Aregbesola and counsel for the
Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate, Senator Iyiola
Omisore, fought during the inspection of election materials used for the
conduct of the August 9 governorship poll.
Counsel for the
governor, Mr. Daud Akinloye, had objected to allowing agents of the PDP
to make photocopies of some materials, saying officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission ought to make the copies and give the petitioner the certified true copies of the same.
After accepting his request, Akinloye also said the order obtained from
the tribunal for the inspection should be produced and ‘Exhibit A’
listed should be produced.
This led to an altercation between Akinloye and Omisore’s counsel, Mr. Kehinde Adesiyan.
The duo stood up to each other and almost exchanged blows, but the head
of Operations of INEC, Mr. Azeez Olatunji, and INEC counsel, Mr. Wuyep
Ishaku, intervened to save the duo from exchanging blows.
Both Akinloye and Adesiayan called each other unprintable names during the quarrel which lasted for about 10 minutes
